• The pound had risen against the US dollar overnight after the U.S. Federal Reserve  (USA Central Bank) gave no hint on when it would start raising interest rates following a widely expected decision to leave its target Fed funds rate unchanged at 2.0 percent.

• That effectively ended the U.S. central bank’s aggressive rate-cutting campaign that it launched in September as it voiced greater concern about inflation.
